LUSHAN, China - Rescuers struggled to reach a remote corner of southwestern China on Sunday as the toll of the dead and missing from the country’s worst earthquake in three years climbed to 203 with more than 11,000 injured.
BEIJING - A strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit a remote, mostly rural and mountainous area of southwestern China’s Sichuan province on Saturday, killing at least 156 people and injuring about 5,500 close to where a big quake killed almost 70,000 people in 2008.

POLKOWICE, Poland — Nineteen miners were pulled alive and well from a copper mine in southern Poland on Wednesday after a small earthquake trapped them almost 2,000 feet below the surface late Tuesday.
At least five people have been killed after a strong earthquake in the South Pacific generated a 3-foot tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and local news reports.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake — with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 — struck Wednesday in the Santa Cruz Islands at a depth of about 3 miles. The Santa Cruz Islands are scarcely populated and are part of the Solomon Islands.
A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck eight miles west of Whitesburg, Ky., early Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
There were no immediate reports of damage in the eastern Kentucky area, but the quake was felt from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Atlanta, Ga., USGS geophysicist Paul Caruso in Denver told NBC News.

Two people were killed, one of them from a heart attack, when a major earthquake hit northwestern Costa Rica on Wednesday, the Red Cross said. Earlier reports said two people were missing and two others suffered minor injuries, but the Red Cross said those numbers could rise as damage assessment teams reached more areas.

Updated at 12:17 p.m. ET: A major earthquake hit northwestern Costa Rica on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
The quake — initially given a magnitude of 7.9 but then revised to 7.6 — struck at 10:42 a.m. ET at a depth of about 25 miles and about seven miles southeast of Nicoya, a town of some 15,000 people on a coastal area on the Pacific about 90 miles from the capital San Jose.

Overcrowded hospitals in northwestern Iran struggled to cope with thousands of earthquake victims on Sunday and rescuers raced to reach remote villages after two powerful quakes killed nearly 300 people.
Thousands huddled in makeshift camps or slept in the street after Saturday’s quakes in fear of more aftershocks, 60 of which had already struck. A lack of tents and other supplies left them exposed to the night chill, one witness told Reuters.
