Pot smokers gather under Seattle’s Space Needle to celebrate legalization of marijuana

About a hundred pot smokers gathered in the cold at Seattle’s City Center on Wednesday night to celebrate the legalization of the possession of marijuana in Washington state.  The law, which took effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, does not allow marijuana to be smoked in public, but you wouldn’t know it by watching the crowd.  As the clock stuck midnight, cheers erupted, followed by lighters igniting pipes and joints.

The side opposed to same-sex marriage in Washington state has conceded that Referendum 74 will likely pass.
“While we are disappointed, we are not defeated,” said Joseph Backholm, chairman of Preserve Marriage Washington, in a statement. “We are fighting for a cause that is true, and beautiful, and right – the sacred institution of marriage. It’s a cause worth fighting for, and we will continue to educate citizens and policymakers on the timeless truth that real marriage is the union of one man and one woman.”

The landing gear door of a Boeing 767 fell from the sky and narrowly missed a car parked a couple of feet away in Kent, Wash., NBC station KING 5 of Seattle reported.
Roughly the size of a refrigerator door, the Boeing part is made of carbon fiber, Federal Aviation Administration officials told KING. Bits of carbon fiber remained embedded deep in the pavement of Southeast 231st Way, about 15 miles east of Seattle, after FAA officials toted the part away as part of an investigation, KING reported.
