A Powerball winner has 180 days to pick up their prize, but a Highland, Ind., man didn’t bother to waste a single day after winning $1 million in Wednesday’s Powerball.
Larry Chandler, 34, was one of the first people through the door at the Indianapolis lottery headquarters Thursday morning after discovering he was one of the big winners in the $587.5 million drawing.

Richard Mourdock, the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Indiana, said in a debate on Tuesday that “even when life begins with that horrible situation of rape, that is something that God intended to happen.”
The remark drew criticism from his Democratic opponent, congressman Joe Donnelly, as well as from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s camp - even as Mourdock defended his words.

A baby girl died and a toddler was in critical condition Saturday after they were left in separate vehicles in the Indianapolis area on a day in which the temperature hit 104 degrees, a record for the date.
Greenfield Police Chief John Jester said a 3-month-old girl was found in a car at 3:35 p.m., the Indianpolis Star reported. The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
