Robert Levinson, the former FBI agent who was apparently kidnapped during a business trip to Iran six years ago, marked a sad milestone Tuesday. He’s now been held captive for 2,454 days, longer than AP bureau chief Terry Anderson, who was held in Beirut from 1985 to 1991, making Levinson one of the longest held American hostages in a foreign land.

Details emerge of mock bunker in Alabama hostage’s rescue

As residents of Midland City, Ala., Tuesday celebrated the freeing of a 5-year-old Alabama boy held hostage for nearly a week, details emerged about the daring operation that freed him.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that federal agents practiced their intricate rescue plans not far from where the kidnapper, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, held the little boy.

'Greatest birthday' for boy rescued from Alabama bunker by FBI

An Alabama boy is set for the “greatest” birthday of his life after being freed from a week’s captivity in an underground bunker, a pastor said Tuesday.

The boy, snatched from a school bus in a fatal shooting, was rescued after a daring raid by FBI agents that left his kidnapper, Jimmy Lee Dykes, dead.

The 5-year-old, who is recovering in hospital, turns 6 on Wednesday.

Boy held hostage in bunker after being snatched from school bus

An Alabama man boarded a school bus, shot and killed the driver, took a boy hostage and was holding the child early Wednesday in an underground bunker, authorities and witnesses said.

Witnesses told WSFA, the NBC station in Montgomery, Ala., that the man was talking to authorities through a PVC pipe. The station reported that the child, age 5 or 6, was not hurt but that authorities were calling the situation delicate.

Police: 4 dead, including gunman, in Aurora, Colo., hostage situation

Three people were found dead inside a home in Aurora, Colo., after a gunman took them hostage early Saturday morning, police told NBC affiliate KUSA. The gunman was also shot and killed by police after hours of failed negotiation attempts.  

Another person who had been inside the house was able to escape and alert authorities, KUSA reported.
