President Barack Obama lit a new National Christmas Tree at a traditional ceremony Thursday outside the White House that officially kicks off the holiday season in the nation’s capital.

Thousands sign online petition against high-tech Christmas tree

Instead of a traditional pine tree, a high-tech light installation vaguely shaped like a Christmas tree stands in the the city center of Brussels.  And the 82-foot sculpture is causing quite a stir, with thousands of signatures appearing on an online petition against it.

Rockefeller Center Christmas tree survived Sandy

The Christmas tree that will dominate New York’s Rockefeller Center survived the winds of Superstorm Sandy that left a path of destruction in a New Jersey town and even its donor without electricity for weeks.

Joe Balku, 76, learned that the 80-foot Norway spruce had been chosen for the honor four weeks ago. Sandy hit two weeks later.
